6 Secrets You Didn't Know About FSSAI Central Online Registration

To start a food business in India, you must seek legal advice from the appropriate government agency. Because the food industry is directly related to people's health, the Indian government maintains that the right people are allowed to work in it. This is the primary cause for government agencies' establishing food licenses.

FSSAI

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is India's apex regulatory organization. It was founded in 2006 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the Food Safety and Standards Act to improve food hygiene and ensure food safety in India.

If you are involved in any Food Business Operations (FBO), be it manufacturing, processing, packaging, distribution, storing, or retail, you must apply for FSSAI registration or a food license online.

Why Is FSSAI Registration Required?

The main goal of obtaining this license is to assure government agencies that you will adhere to all rules and regulations and maintain a high standard of food preparation. So, to lawfully run a food business in India, you must first obtain a food license.

You cannot legally operate a food business in India without this license. Before applying for a food license, there are six things you should know.

  • Criteria for Food licensing
  • No excessive documentation
  • Know The Reason for Additional documentation required
  • No frequent queries raised
  • Central licensing authorities for FBO in Railways & Airports premises
  • State License for Company form of business

Criteria For Food Licensing:

The Food Licensing Criteria looks at a whole Type of business activity by using the Aggregate Turnover as a guide:

·         Basic FSSAI registration is available to food businesses with an annual turnover of up to 12 lakhs rupees.

·         FSSAI State licenses are available to food businesses with an annual turnover of 12 lakhs to 20 crores.

·         FSSAI Central licenses are available to food businesses with a combined turnover of more than 20 crores.

Furthermore, 100% export-oriented operations, importers of Food for commercial purposes, and food catering units in Central Government Agencies such as Railways, Air and Airport, Seaport, and Defence must get a compulsory Central License.

No Excessive Documentation

Unnecessary or unrelated documentation for FSSAI applications creates significant delays in the registration process, according to FSSAI, and one must avoid it. Using the FSSAI License Registration portal, you can conveniently complete the necessary paperwork.

On the FSSAI-Food Licensing & Registration System (FLRS) government portal, a checklist of essential paperwork for all types of FBOs is given. Applicants and Food licensing authorities must follow the checklist and submit papers for FSSAI applications correctly.

Know Reason For Additional Documentation Required:

Those additional documents are deemed necessary if they request any further evidence during the FSSAI registration process. In that case, the FBO must understand why. The FSSAI department always explains why additional documentation is required on the FLRS site. The FBO must be aware of this.

The abovementioned clarifying reasons must be appropriately presented to the Food Safety Commissioner or the Director of the FSSAI's Regional Office for assessment.

No Frequent Queries Raised

There were no frequently asked questions. One of the major concerns of FBOs these days is that FSSAI officials have raised a slew of questions about their FSSAI application. This results in significant delays in the registration process

The FSSAI has instructed licensing agencies that queries should not be filed one after the other. Instead, the department will now thoroughly inspect the complete FSSAI application, and all errors will be disclosed to the applicant simultaneously. The applicant can then quickly and easily answer all of the questions.

Central Licensing Authorities For FBO In Railways & Airports Premises

If your food catering business is located on railway or airport property, you must obtain an FSSAI Central License. In both circumstances, the bodies in charge of issuing a license are:

·         The Designated Officers/Registering Authorities of Indian Railways, as notified by the FSSAI Authority from time to time, grant FSSAI Central licenses for FBOs in Railways premises.

·         Airport Health Officers (APHOs) or Port Health Officers give FSSAI Central licenses for FBOs on airport or seaport sites (PHOs)

·         The FSSAI department has designated these as Designated Officers (DOs).

·         For airports and seaports where the APHOs/PHOs have not yet been certified as DOs, the Central Licensing Authority (CLA) of that region shall issue Central Licensing Authority (CLA) licenses.

State License For Company Form Of Business:

There's no denying that the FBO's aggregate turnover is used to determine eligibility for FSSAI registration. However, it is crucial to note that if your company is a Public or Private Limited Company, you must obtain an FSSAI state license.

More logically, an FBO operating as a Public or Private Limited Company would not have a turnover of less than 12 lakhs. This would cost between 12 lakhs and 20 crores or more. As a result, FBO is qualified for an FSSAI state license in this situation. While applying for a food license online, every FBO should be aware of the following guidelines.
